Woodford Reserve Kentucky Bourbon Gift Set
Woodford Reserve Gift Set |
Hi from Becca Boo and Yer Man!!!
I bought Yer Man a nice little Valentine’s gift from Sainsburys (£20), a Woodford Reserve gift set which contained a 200ml bottle of Woodford Reserve Bourbon, a cut glass whiskey glass and a 60ml bottle of Woodford Reserve Old Fashioned Syrup.
First things first… This gift set - Would You Buy It Again?
Becca Boo:
Hell yeah! I’d buy the set again to get another glass! I really like those glasses.
I’d buy the WR again, I think it’s one of my favourite whiskeys.
I’d buy the syrup again, I loved the syrup, I think it compliments the whiskey, it’s an easy way to make a fancy drink without doing a lot of work
Yer man:
Oh aye! I really like the glass. We’ve been on the lookout for decent sized cut glass whiskey glasses or ‘Rocks glasses’, as they’ve been labeled here, and these are pretty hefty and a good size, so I’d buy the gift set again for that.
I love Woodford Reserve. The first time I had it was on a flight from Boston to Dublin in 2018, it was the only bourbon on offer (international flight so it was free too haha), it was delicious.
We have a Woodford Reserve gift set that includes a 200 ml bottle of Woodford Reserve Kentucky bourbon, a cut glass whiskey glass and a 60 ml bottle of Woodford Reserve Old Fashioned syrup…
The Woodford Reserve Old Fashioned Syrup was a bit sweet for me in the ratio suggested but it was very tasty. 10/10 would buy it again.
So, on to the actual review…
Yer Man:
Becca Boo:
(trying an Old Fashioned made from the gift set) Ooooh, Oh My God!
YM:
I’ve just made an Old fashioned following the recipe on the back of the box and, as you can probably tell from the noises in the background, Boo likes it a lot.
BB:
Oh My God! Yum! This is Fan-F***ing-Tastic! Miiiiiaow!!!! Mmmmm! Oh, it’s delicious!
YM:
That’ll be nice to sit in front of an open fire with.
BB:
(making himself an Old Fashioned) 2 splashes of this (the Woodford Reserve bourbon). I thought the one I made you was a bit sweet even though, due to logistics I didn’t put the recommended amount of syrup in, so I’ll put less in this one.
This is really, really nice!
YM:
BB:
What? No make this one with the right proportions of everything and you can have mine. I want to taste it made with the right amounts of everything.
YM:
OK! I’ll make it with the right amounts. So it’s 50 ml of bourbon and 10 ml of syrup but I don’t have a 50 ml measure, it’s 35 so I put 70 ml in the glass. The 1 teaspoon measure actually says 1Tsp/4ml so that’s balls as well and I couldn’t be bothered to work it out exactly hahahah so you’re getting 12 ml of the syrup.
BB:
Why do you say it’s 4?
YM:
It says 4 ml on the measure.
BB:
A teaspoon is 5 ml.
YM:
Yep, but that one says 4 ml.
BB:
No!
YM:
That’s what it says.
BB:
Let me taste it, so that has the proper amounts in it?
YM:
Yep, just letting the ice cube work it’s magic.
BB:
You’re not having this one, you’ve already drank half of that one hahah!
Here, do you want yours back if I’m having that one?
YM:
BB:
No I haven’t, I’ve had one wee sip.
YM:
Well I didn’t have the proper measures, I did it approximately. Ewwww! Too sweet But Oh My God! The whiskey’s nice, the whiskey is nice.
Aye right!!
BB:
Babe, you said you were making that one with the proper amounts.
YM:
BB:
It’s soooo good!!
YM:
Yes! I have to say, (swapping glasses with BB) I like this one better, it’s not as sweet. Can you buy that Old Fashioned Syrup?
BB:
I’m sure you can, let me google that for you hahah! I want that, then you don’t have to do anything, that’s your drink already made. It’s simple and f***ing delicious!! Ooooh, I’m in love!
YM:
(speaking in his posh voice to google assistant on phone) Woodford Reserve Old Fashioned Syrup.
Google Asst:
Mmmm brandy!!
According to wikipedia the old fashioned is a cocktail made by muddling sugar with bitters, adding whiskey or, less commonly, brandy, and garnishing with a twist of citrus rind.
YM:
BB:
I’ll google it. I’ve had a Woodford Reserve cherry bitter that you would use on…
YM:
I would give up all my other drinks and drink this, I’m a bit afraid of the syrup though, anything ‘syrup’ has a lot of sugar in it.
Here it is 16 fl oz $16, how many ml in 16 fl oz
BB:
16 oz is like 480ml
YM:
We can, we will!
Awesome! We should get one of those.
BB:
YM:
So, let’s see, Woodford Reserve $36.99
That first taste of the first drink was the best.
BB:
YM:
Yeah, that’s what I meant when i said the first drink was the best, I could taste the whisky and orange.
(Rattling ice in an empty glass after taking the last swig) After this I’ll be reviewing the Woodford Reserve on it’s own.
BB:
Oh My God! Is that all that’s left? Oh no!
YM:
There’s other whiskey there.
BB:
I think it’s amazing.
I know but I’m soooo disappointed, the smokiness of this is superb, do you get the smoke on the back side?
YM:
BB:
YM:
I love that glass, that’s the type of glasses I want for our house
Yep, I was pretty happy that time on the airplane when the free bourbon was Woodford Reserve.
OK, the neat Woodford Reserve has been sitting in a glass with a large ice cube, chilling and getting slightly diluted just to take the edge off, jeez that smells nice. This glass previously had the old fashioned in it, it’s a nice glass.
BB:
YM:
(Drinking) Oh man!!
BB:
Oh My God! I love this whiskey, how did I not know I love this whiskey?
YM:
The taste is just f***ing fantastic. It’s a lovely sipping whisky, I don’t want to put anything in this. I like the syrup…
It’ll be interesting to try this versus a bottle of Michter’s (Rye), we’ll do a shoot out between them
BB:
I just like, it’s not sharp, you don’t make a whisky face, it’s smooth and it’s got this smoke on the back side of it that is soooo nice.
YM:
You feel like a grown up when you drink it, it makes you think you should be discussing foreign policy or something hahah
BB:
YM:
Hahhhaha, well that takes care of the question would you buy it again.
Maybe we should use that with a different whiskey?
BB:
The whisky alone is just fantastic.
(Almost whispering) it’s soo nice.
YM:
(offering the glass) Here, finish that off.
BB:
No, I won’t , it’s your gift, and I’m putting in an order at the liquor store hahahahah.
YM:
Hahhhaha, well that takes care of the question would you buy it again.
It was a definite YES!!!! From both.
